Condemnation of Zawahri’s statements regarding his intervention in the internal affairs of Syria

The Local Coordination Committees in Syria completely reject the statement by Al Qaeda’s leader Ayman el Zawahiri in which he called for the establishment of an Islamic state in Syria.

The LCC condemns Zawahiri’s blatant interference in Syria’s internal affairs and repeats once again that only Syrians will decide their country’s future.

The LCC declares once again that the Syrian revolution began in order to achieve freedom, justice and a civil, democratic, pluralist state. Our aspired and sought dreams as Syrians after the overthrow of the fascist regime is to establish a system based on public freedoms and human rights and political equality between the Syrians. And that our future Syria that we seek is a republic and civil state belonging to all Syrians as one people, its members are equal in rights and duties in accordance with the principle of citizenship, no compromise or privilege regarding the rights will be granted on the grounds of his religious or sectarian or ethnic identity… Syria is a state for all its citizens
